Pharaoh has begun to oppress the Israelites and has ordered that they be treated harshly. He is making their lives bitter with hard service in making mortar, bricks and all kinds of hard working in the fields. The treatment of the Israelites is harsher than I have ever seen before. Even as a servant in Pharaoh’s palace, I have never seen anything like it.
